Sohrab Sepehri

The beach is covered with empty shells.
Seekers of pearls are gone to OTHER shores.
The meaningless search is printed on the sand.
Sound is absent, mermaids are asleep,
the water is tired and short of breath.
My moment is on its way.

And tonight – listen to me – tonight,
the water offers the earth a story.
Tonight, a head arises out of the darkness of longing.
Tonight, a smile pours into the beyond.
A shining boat silently cuts through the night waters.

The mighty sailor,
whose shadow has fallen on my coming and going,
whose eyes light up my steps,
whose hands break my doubt,
arrives from beyond my fear.
Crying, I hasten to greet him.
In the radiance of oneness,
He puts in my hand the great pearl.
